Welcome to my Website
I spent 1965-1970 in a seminal progressive rock band, played my
guitar out of the spotlight for the next 15 years, re-lived the 60’s/70’s
again for yet another 15 years in a semi-pro duo (and also solo), gigging
in Midlands pubs and clubs, then arrived on the folk and acoustic circuit
during 2001.
I've been playing guitar and singing (in that order) since the age of
13, and I have a good few songs up my sleeve. I'm not a prolific songwriter,
but the handful I've written seem to get a favourable reaction. My main
strength is interpretation (or emulation) of the music I admire.
My influences are very varied. I grew up with the Beatles generation,
and was very soon also into British and American contemporary folk.
See the Songs page for an idea of my repertoire. Luckily I can think
on my feet musically in most styles.
I currently play two Taylor guitars each built in 2001 and equipped
with the Fishman Prefix Plus system- a 314ce grand auditorium (serial
20011031008), and a 412ce grand concert (serial 20010306061).
I practise on my old Pilgrim model II bowl-backed acoustic (serial 1782).
I have a small Yamaha PA (Stagepas 300), a Shure SM58 to sing into and
I record using a Korg D4 digital 4 track recorder. I prefer to use Elixir
Nanoweb phosphor bronze light gauge strings.
Apart from my solo performances, I accompany the legendary Tommy Dempsey
on a regular basis, and I also collaborate with Sue Stevens, an excellent
singer, songwriter and guitarist who runs the Lighthouse Folk Club together
with Pat Hall. Our duo is called evanStevens and our website can be
found under Links.
